Boston College Professor Cronin hilariously explains the difference between today’s “hookup” culture and the importance of returning to the “quaint” culture of “dating”.
- Professor Cronin’s Top 10 Tips for College Freshmen: For those unable to take Professor Cronin’s class, here are her top 10 dating tips.
- No Hookups if You Want an Emotionally Deeper Relationship: If you hook up, other students will assume that’s what you want. But, if you want something that is emotionally satisfying over the long run, you need to get to know someone over time before having sex.
- Ask Out Someone that You’re Romantically Interested In: The goal is not to find your soulmate but to see if the romantic interest is mutual. It also allows you to get better at dating the more you do it.
- Be Courageous: Ask your date out in person.
- Have a Plan for the Date Within 2-3 Days: If you wait a week with no firm plan in mind, you will never go on your date.
- Keep the Date to a Short Time Period: The first date should be no more than 60-90 minutes.
- Weekdays are the Best Days for a First Date: Weekdays dates tend to be less pressure, more casual with less alcohol!
- Learn to Accept Rejection: If your date does not show mutual interest in a romantic relationship, be prepared to gracefully accept it and move on.
- Enlist Support: Dating can be scary, and you’ll need all the support you can. Therefore, enlist 2two to three friends for support.
- Get into the Dating Game: Don’t opt out of the dating game just because you’re scared. College is one of the best times to date and learn more about what you want in a person.
- Learn How to Break Up Gracefully: Breaking up gracefully is important for both your date and you. It’s a skill that will serve you well.
